Wednesday, August 14, 2019

At approximately 1:15 A.M. on Wednesday, the Shell Station in Angola was robbed at gun point in which an Angola Police Officer was close by and responded to the call. The officer then went on a pursuit of a black passenger vehicle which was occupied by two male subjects.

The pursuit went into the Fremont area, and then back on to the interstate South bound where Ashley Police were deployed and stop sticks were laid down and flattened two of the suspect's vehicle tires. Their vehicle came to a stop in a ditch just South of the Ashley exit on I-69 where Steuben County Deputies apprehended one of the suspects a short time later.

In their vehicle, an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes were found believed to have been stolen from the gas station. The second suspect was also apprehended, which was a 16 year-old male juvenile who was wanted out of Allen County for escape. Charges pending against the juvenile will be armed robbery, as well as resisting arrest by fleeing on foot. The vehicle was later found to have been stolen out of Fort Wayne.

The first suspect, the driver, 27 year-old Jared Dean Starkey was apprehended at around 6:20 A.M. at the 338.5 mile marker along I-69. Aiding in the arrest were members of the Indiana State Police.

Further details of the incident remain under investigation by local authorities.
