COVID-19 Testing Questions Addressed
Wednesday, May 13, 2020

A common question from many across the state of Indiana in regards to COVID-19 is the sample size, and how population groups that have been tested were chosen.

On Wednesday afternoon, Paul Halverson, PhD. Founding Dean from the Dean Fairbanks School of Health at IUPUI joined state leaders during the daily coronavirus briefing to explain what the early tests have focused on.

Halverson brought up the fact that the majority of testing in Indiana, as well as the rest of the country has focused on those who have shown serious symptoms or others who have shown to be at most risk like healthcare workers, as well as those who could potentially be linked to someone with a positive case. Unfortunately, Halverson also went on to say that what the tests do not indicate is the potential of those who are potentially infected.

Halverson brought up that one down side to COVID-19 in regards to the findings are that the severity levels of the symptoms of the infected have been dramatically different, and that the research being done by state and local healthcare professionals will need to continue as new information is discovered everyday about the novel upper respiratory virus.
