Mike Wilson Hired To Be New Chamber Director
By: Mike Stiles - Tuesday, December 29, 2020

STURGIS – The Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce has hired a new Executive Director.

Board President Barry Lindblom says Michael Wilson of Sturgis has been named the new Chamber Executive Director following a lengthy interview process.

Ten individuals submitted applications. That was narrowed down to four people for second round interviews. Lindblom says Wilson was highly organized and had a wide variety of experience with non-profits and volunteer organizations. He also stood out in each step of the interview process.

Wilson served 27 years with the Michigan Army National Guard and retired as a Command Sergeant Major. He also has worked at ProLeader Consulting LLC, and was the former Regional Coordinator at the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. In addition, Wilson is a former Academy Sergeant Major at Howe Military Academy and the former Survivor Outreach Services Coordinator at Human Resources Consulting, Inc.

Wilson is taking over for Cathi Abbs, who announced earlier this year that she was retiring at the end of 2020. Lindblom says the Chamber Board is considering bringing in the other three candidates to help implement some of the ideas they presented during their interviews, in which they have unique backgrounds.
