Fort Wayne Area Troopers Celebrate Milestone Service Anniversaries

Fort Wayne, IN – Eight Indiana State Police troopers assigned to the Fort Wayne Post have recently celebrated annual service anniversaries with the department. Noteworthy is the fact that their combined careers have spanned a period of nearly four decades, and their total accumulated years of service now exceeds 244 years.

Master Trooper Kurt Jack- (37 Years of Service)
Master Trooper Jack, was appointed as a trooper on December 25, 1983, after graduating the 41st Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. He was assigned to the Fort Wayne Post, where he has remained his entire career. M/Trooper Jack has primarily been assigned to road patrol duties for the Adams and Wells County areas but has also attained several highly skilled specialty certifications and secondary assignments during his tenure. He has 31 years (since 1989) of experience as a certified Technical Crash Investigator with Vehicle Dynamics, as well as aircraft crash investigations. During that same 31year period, Jack has served as a Field Training Officer and Background Investigator for the Fort Wayne District, which has involved him in the hiring and training processes for numerous ISP personnel. In 2014, M/Trooper Jack was named the Trooper of the Year for the Fort Wayne Post and has been awarded for achieving over 1.6 million safe driving miles over the course of his career.

Jack is a Michigan State University-East Lansing alumni, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. His law enforcement career first began as a patrol officer with the Elkhart Police Department prior to joining the Indiana State Police. He is a longtime resident of Wells County. He has three adult children- Brian, Amy, and Chris; and five grandchildren.

Sergeant Pornteb L. Nathalang- (36 Years of Service)
Sergeant Luke Nathalang was appointed as a trooper on November 18, 1984, after graduating the 42nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. He was assigned to the Fort Wayne Post out of the academy, where has remained his entire career. Alongside his primary patrol assignments, Sgt. Nathalang has also served as a field training officer, a speed timing instructor, and a crash re-constructionist. From 1991 until 2004, he was a member of the Department’s High-Performance Vehicle program in which he patrolled in both the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro. In October 2004, he attended and graduated from the Northwestern-Harley Davidson Police Motorcycle School, and began patrolling the Fort Wayne district’s highways with the Department’s renewed motorcycle program. Nathalang currently serves as a Squad Sergeant assigned to the Fort Wayne Post.

Nathalang, a native of Thailand, immigrated to Fort Wayne as a young boy. He is a graduate of Concordia High School and Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne (IPFW), where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering. He is a long-time resident of Allen County where he continues to reside with his wife Vicki. Together they have three adult children and five grandchildren.

Master Trooper Kent Roe- (36 Years of Service)
Master Trooper Kent Roe was appointed as a trooper on November 18, 1984, after graduating the 42nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. He was first assigned to the Lowell Post where he served from 1984-1987. He received a transfer of assignment to the Fort Wayne Post in 1987, where he has remained since. M/Tpr Roe has primarily been assigned to road patrol duties in Allen County over the course of his career, but also served as a tactical operator with the ISP Emergency Response Team (Team II) for eight years, and also spent a year with the High-Performance Vehicle program, where he patrolled in a Ford Mustang. He is currently assigned to road patrol duties in Allen County.

Kent and his wife Debbie are longtime residents of Allen County. Together they have three adult children and five grandchildren.

Master Trooper Don Stoffel- (35 Years of Service)
Master Trooper Stoffel was appointed as a trooper on November 18, 1985, after graduating the 43rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. From the academy, he was assigned to the Fort Wayne Post, where has remained. Stoffel has been assigned to patrol assignments in various areas of the Fort Wayne District his entire career. He spent 13 years in the Department’s High-Performance Vehicle patrol program, four years as an Emergency Vehicle Operation instructor. Stoffel spent over 28 years as a scuba diver with the ISP Underwater Search & Rescue Team II, making him one of the longest-serving scuba divers in the team’s history. In 2015, Stoffel was awarded as the Trooper of the Year at the Fort Wayne Post for achieving outstanding enforcement efforts in the areas of traffic and criminal enforcement, and for exemplifying the professionalism and integrity expected of an Indiana State Trooper. He has also been awarded for having attained 1.5 million safe driving miles throughout his career. He is currently assigned road patrol duties in the Huntington & Whitley Counties.

A Huntington County native, Stoffel graduated from Huntington North High School in 1979. He currently resides in Whitley County with his son.

Master Trooper Jason House- (25 Years of Service)
Master Trooper Jason House was appointed as a trooper on December 24, 1995, after graduating the 53rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. He was first assigned to the Lowell Post where he was assigned from 1995-1997 to work on the Trump Casino boat. In 1997 House transferred to the Fort Wayne Post after being promoted to serve as a detective, a position for which he held for approximately 10 years. House received a promotion to the rank of Corporal and served seven years as a District Duty Officer at Fort Wayne. He's been assigned to the Clandestine Laboratory Team (Meth investigations), served as a Field Training Officer, and is trained as a photogrammetry specialist. Currently, he is assigned to road patrol duties in Adams and Wells County.

A Fort Wayne native, House graduated from Northrop High School in 1991, received an Associate’s Degree from Vincennes University in 1993, and then graduated from Manchester College in 1995 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Jason and his wife Lisa are longtime residents of Ossian, where they currently reside with their two sons, Logan and Ryan.

Master Trooper Roland Purdy- (25 years of service)
Master Trooper Roland Purdy was appointed as a trooper on December 24, 1995, after graduating the 53rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. Purdy was assigned to the Fort Wayne Post, where he spent his first 14 years patrolling the LaGrange and Noble County areas. In 2009 he was assigned to work with an Identity Theft Task Force through the US Postal Service. In 2017 he was reassigned as an investigator for Financial Crimes. In 2020, Purdy transferred to the Special Investigations Unit (Organized Crime and Corruption), where he is currently assigned.

Purdy is an Archbold, Ohio native. He graduated from Archbold High School in 1984 and received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo in 1988. Purdy’s law enforcement career first began in 1986 as a patrolman with the Archbold Police Department. In 1993 he was promoted to serve as the Assistant-Chief for APD, a position that he held until 1995 when selected to attend the 53rd Indiana State Police academy.

Roland and his wife Melody currently reside in Whitley County.

Master Trooper Brad Shultz- (25 Years of Service)
Master Trooper Brad Shultz was appointed as a trooper on December 24, 1995, after graduating the 53rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. He was first assigned to the Lowell Post out of the Academy, assigned patrol duties in Lake County. In 1997 Shultz transferred to the Fort Wayne Post and was assigned to road patrol duties in Allen County. From 2008-2015 Shultz served as an ISP Patrol K9 handler alongside his dedicated partner “Gunnar”. Together they had an extremely impressive career over those seven years, receiving numerous accommodations and citations for their criminal & drug interdiction work. Shultz has also served as a Field Training Officer and Speed Timing Instructor (radar/Lidar) and has earned the Department’s “Possible Club” and “Top 20” shooting awards for his superior marksmanship skills. Shultz is currently assigned to road patrol duties in Allen County.

Shultz is a native of Hubbard, Ohio. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1991, and then attended Youngstown University through 1995 when he was accepted into the 53rd ISP Recruit Academy. He currently resides in Allen County with his wife Liz, and their three children.

Master Trooper Roy Stuckey- (25 Years of Service)
Master Trooper Roy Stuckey was appointed as a trooper on December 24, 1995, after graduating the 53rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. He was first assigned to the Lowell Post from 1995-1997 where he patrolled the Lake County region. In 1997 Stuckey transferred to the Fort Wayne Post and was assigned to road patrol duties in Whitley County. In 2007 Stuckey transferred assignments to the Special Investigations (Organized Crime & Corruption) Unit, where he is currently assigned to investigate financial crimes. During his 25 year career, Stuckey has also served as a Field Training Officer and was assigned to the Tactical Intervention Platoon (TIP).

A LaGrange County native, Stuckey graduated from Lakeland High School in 1990. In 1994 he graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He currently resides in Whitley County with his wife Melissa.
