Bronson House Fire Believed To Be Electrical In Origin
By: Mike Stiles - Wednesday, January 6, 2021

BRONSON – An electrical short is believed to be the cause of a house fire in Bronson.

Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says the Bronson Fire Department received notification from Branch County Central Dispatch just before 11:30 Monday night of a structure fire at 230 Compton Street. Crews arrived and found smoke coming from the eaves of the two-story house.

Firefighters were on scene for two and a half hours before the blaze was put out. Two occupants of the home were able to get out safely. Wilber says investigators determined the fire had been burning unnoticed in the attic for some time as flames burned through the roof within minutes of the fire department arriving at the house.

Damage estimates stand at $25,000 to the building and $5,000 to the contents. Wilber says this fire shows the importance of having smoke detectors because fires can burn in void spaces such as attics, unnoticed, and gain a head start before being discovered.
