ANGOLA, IN – A man charged with shooting at police at a Fremont motel in June of 2018 has been convicted in Steuben County Superior Court.

According to the Steuben County Prosecutor’s Office, 38-year-old Joshua A. Kelley of Waterloo was found guilty on eight charges including two counts of Attempted Murder of police officers.

He was also convicted on charges of two counts of possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a handgun, manufacturing methamphetamine
pointing a loaded firearm at a police officer, theft of firearm and possession of a handgun without a license.

Kelley was arrested back in 2018 following a seven hour standoff with police at the Travelers Inn west of Fremont (Indiana). The first outburst of gunfire took place as Fremont Police were conducting a welfare check on him. The second took place about six hours later when negotiations broke down.

Kelley, who has a criminal record going back to 2000, surrendered after police fired tear gas into his room at the motel.

The jury also found Kelley guilty of several sentencing enhancements.

He will be sentenced on October 7th by Judge William Fee. The sentence can range from 67-195 years in prison, depending on a number of factors Fee can consider.
