FREMONT, IN - A truck driver found themselves on a bridge over troubled water as it tried to drive across a walking trail bridge Wednesday morning.

The tanker truck reportedly tried to drive straight across the walking trail bridge by 6 Autumns Restaurant and the Ramada Inn on State Road 127.

The truck and tanker it was pulling was to heavy for the Steuben County multipurpose trail bridge used primarily by walkers and bicyclist.

The bridge collapsed and sustained a considerable amount of damage. The truck and trailer fell all the way through to the wetland area underneath the bridge.

The driver told authorities that he was following some sort of GPS directions that caused him to leave State Road 127 and drive onto the pedestrian bridge.

The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the truck was hauling a product to be used at the Steuben Lakes Regional Waste District lift station.
