ANGOLA – Royal Black Tattoo secured victory to move downtown on Monday night at City Hall.

The Angola Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) approved the rezoning relief from Title 18, Unified Property Ordinance of 114 E. Maumee St. The location is zoned Downtown Commercial (DC).

Owners of Royal Black Tattoo Casey and Angel Webster were in attendance to the meeting.

Casey defended the move stating he believes the new spot to be a, “perfect location for our tattoo shop and we hope to be a positive change to downtown Angola.

The board noted the request was required due to an older code set when tattoo parlors were considered more taboo.

BZA Vice Chairman Howard McKeever explained the board had approved beauty shops to move downtown and believed a tattoo parlor should be treated no differently.

“We believe this to be a positive improvement to the culture of downtown,” said Economic Development and Planning Director, Jennifer Barclay.

Royal Black Tattoo is currently located at 603 North Wayne St.
