INDIANAPOLIS — Unemployment rates in northeast Indiana increased by about a half of a percentage point in most local counties, but still remained some of the lowest in the state.
According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, LaGrange and Steuben counties were lowest in the Hoosier state along with two other counties, Ohio and Boone Counties, at 2.2 percent.
LaGrange County increased a half of a point in June, from its state-leading low of 1.7 percent in May. Steuben County increased to 2.2 percent from 1.8 percent in May.
Several other area counties were also among some of the lowest in the state. DeKalb County increased a half a point in June coming in at 2.5 percent, which was fourth lowest (along with Whitley County).
Noble County is now at 3.0 percent, up from 2.4 percent in May (putting them as the 6th lowest in the state).
In Elkhart County, the jobless rate also increased, from 1.8 percent in May to 2.3 percent in June.
Most local figures are still lower than this time last year.
Indiana’s statewide unemployment rate stands at 2.4 percent.
The national unemployment rate in June remains at 3.6 percent.
