MERRIVILLE - The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) approved the decision for Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (NIPSCO) to increase natural gas rates beginning September 1.
NIPSCO claims to have been Indiana’s lowest cost natural gas provider on average over the last ten years.
The two-step process will phase the approved rates with the majority of the increase starting September 1, 2033 and again in March of 2023.
In a press release NIPSCO’s President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Hooper said, “Customers expect service that is dependable and rates at the lowest cost possible... This balanced outcome demonstrates a positive path toward continued investments in essential resources that will support safe operations, upgrading aging infrastructure and enhancing our customers’ experience.”
The decision was made after a nearly yearlong process where the IURC reviewed the process and public input extensively.
