Today’s mixed bag of weather has has involved everything from freezing rain that “sounded like Legos on the roof” to rolling thunder this evening.
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement this evening saying freezing rain and some icing on trees/branches and powerlines may cause breaking of tree branches and limbs and power outages over the next couple of hours.
It may be wise to make sure you’re cell phones, and other smart devices are fully charged. As well, be prepared to have alternate light sources, such as flashlights and candles, ready.
If you are experiencing a power outage, please make sure to report that to your power company or service provider.
Also be mindful of downed power lines. If you do encounter them, please stay away from them, and if you’re in your vehicle, back up and do not exit your vehicle to investigate further.
It’s also important to remember to only call 911 if you are experiencing an emergency. You should not be tying up emergency lines to ask questions about the weather or for the status of when your power is coming back on.
Area utility companies and emergency service crews have worked diligently today to take care of any situation’s that could cause harm or inconvenience area residents.
