FREMONT - A Fremont man was arrested on Wednesday, July 26 for charges of possessing child pornography.

Rodney J. Renfrew, 70, of Fremont was arrested in the 400 block of Lane 301 on Lake George by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department.

Renfrew is being charged with 5 counts of Level 5 Felony – Possession of Child Pornography- Depicting a Child Less than 12 Years of Age.

The IP address of Renfrew was initially flagged on November 26, 2022 and then again on January 9, 2023 after uploading images of child pornography online.

After obtaining a search warrant Steuben County Sheriff’s Department detectives recovered an external hard drive in Renfrew’s home with approximately 250 files of obvious child pornography including 238 images and 12 videos.

The files were reportedly downloaded off of the internet.

The Steuben County Circuit Court set bail at $5,000.

A pre-trial conference is set for October 17, 2023 and a jury trial is set for January 18, 2024.

Renfrew indicated that he was hiring private counsel.
