ANGOLA - In a ceremony on Monday morning, land on the east end of the YMCA of Steuben County was publicly designated as the Sheets Family Park.
The new project in development will become part of the existing YMCA campus in Angola. Mr. Chuck Sheets and his family were recognized by the YMCA and city and state officials, including Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch.
The Sheets family donated the original land where the YMCA was erected. Community member Chuck Needle remarked back to the time period of “1997” when the area was nothing but “farmland and the existing road didn’t even bridge over the railroad tracks to 827”.
A special committee has been tasked with formulating how to use the 4 acre space now dedicated to the Sheets family.
