INDIANAPOLIS – Two Prairie Heights students who want to become teachers, have received scholarships to help them achieve that goal.
Republican State Representative Denny Zent of Angola says among the 200 young people awarded Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarships, Raegan Moore and Madelyn Wylie of Prairie Heights each received funds.
The scholarship program, established in 2016 through legislation supported by Zent, awards $7,500 annually to 200 high-achieving students who commit to teaching in Indiana for at least 5 years after they graduate college. Zent says it's inspiring to see Raegan and Madelyn want to take on such an important role. He says by choosing the path of becoming educators, they will change lives, give back to their communities and enrich schools.
More than 400 students applied for the scholarships this year. Those qualifying for the renewable scholarship totaling up to $30,000, must graduate in the highest 20 percent of their high school class or earn a score in the top 20th percentile on the SAT or the ACT.
