CHA Prepared To Provide FDA Approved Pfizer Vaccine
By: Mike Stiles - Tuesday, August 24, 2021

COLDWATER - The Food and Drug Administration has given approval for the use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for persons age 16 and older.

This approval removes the Emergency Use Authorization designation, except for those ages 12 through 15. The vaccine will be marketed as Comirnaty. Comirnaty is a messenger RNA vaccine which does not change an individual’s DNA but allows the body to identify the COVID-19 virus signaling the body to fight the virus quickly.

Dr. Lauren Vogel, Medical Director with the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, says even though we are seeing vaccinated individuals develop COVID-19, vaccination has reduced the number of individuals with significant illness requiring hospitalization and fewer deaths. The prevalence of the Delta variant in the community should make people pause and consider the additional steps they need to take as individuals and a community to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Citizens are encouraged to contact their primary care physician or their local health department with questions. You can still schedule your COVID-19 vaccine appointment with the CHA by going to their website at bhsj dot org slash scheduling.

If you would like to schedule a home visit, employer vaccine clinic, or a community event clinic, please call 517-279-9561.
