By: Mike Stiles - Wednesday, August 25, 2021

UNDATED – With the forecast calling for hot and humid conditions for the remainder of the week, many area schools are adjusting their schedules.

In a posting on their web page, Mendon Community Schools announced they are moving to half days for the remainder of the week for their students. Elementary students will be dismissed at 10:50 AM and Junior High and High School students at 11 AM.

Mendon Superintendent Leasa Griffith says since the buildings don't have air conditioning, they said early dismissal was the best way to keep their students safe. Colon Community Schools also posted they will have half day classes for the rest of this week for their students. Colon Middle School and High School students will be dismissed at 11:20 AM for the rest of this week, and Elementary School students at 11:30 AM.

White Pigeon Community Schools are also going to half days for the rest of this week. White Pigeon will be dismissing Middle School and High School students at 11:20 AM and Elementary School students at 11:30 AM. Because of this change in the schedule, there will be no late start on Friday. Nottawa Schools will have a half day of classes for their students today, and release students at 11:30 AM. They will make a determination on what do to for the remainder of the week later today.

Constantine Public Schools Superintendent James Wisely has announced that Elementary School and Middle School students will be on their half day schedule for the remainder of this week. Sturgis Superintendent Art Ebert says classes will run on a normal schedule for their students. Sturgis has air conditioning in their classrooms and will be monitoring heat and humidity in regards to athletic events.

Burr Oak Schools are making no changes to their class schedule, but it will be a day to day decision. Burr Oak has air conditioning in all of their classrooms.
