(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indiana environmental specialist has been selected to serve on a national advisory panel for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Dr. Jessica Weir, a technical environmental specialist with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, has been appointed to the EPA's Science Advisory Board.

Weir works in IDEM's Watershed Assessment and Planning Branch, where she supports water-quality efforts and industrial permitting through data analysis and modeling.

The Science Advisory Board provides independent scientific guidance to the EPA on environmental policy and decision-making. Weir will serve on the board's Drinking Water Committee.

She is one of four Hoosiers named to the 37-member board, the largest representation from any state.

State officials say the appointment highlights Indiana's role in national environmental discussions and reflects Weir's experience in aquatic biology and water-quality science.

Weir holds degrees from Eastern Illinois University and Ball State University, with research focused on environmental data and aquatic ecosystems.
