(NATIONAL) - Gas prices across the U.S. have reached their highest level in four years.

The national average climbed to $4.18 a gallon Tuesday, according to AAA, marking a roughly 40 percent increase since late February.

Prices have not been this high since April 2022.

The spike comes amid rising global energy costs tied to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and disruptions in oil supply routes.

Oil prices are also climbing, with U.S. benchmark crude nearing $100 per barrel and Brent crude topping $110.

States in the West are seeing the highest prices, with California averaging nearly $6 a gallon, while Oklahoma has some of the lowest prices at around $3.57.
