Indiana officials are urging health care providers throughout the state to report any young patients with a history of vaping who have unexpectedly developed severe respiratory illnesses.
In an advisory report issued by The Indiana State Department of Health last week that was sent to various Indiana hospitals and other health care providers, it indicated that numerous teenagers and young adults were hospitalized with various respiratory illnesses in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Patients reported using e-cigarettes in the weeks and months prior to their illness turning severe. The young patients experienced symptoms that included things such as shortness of breath, fatigue and chest pain. Some reported becoming so ill they needed mechanical ventilation.
No cases have been reported in the state of Indiana as of yet, however the State Department of Health is urging medical providers to report any such cases to local county health departments if they indeed become noticeable.
