STURGIS – A man who served the City of Sturgis for many years and in different capacities has passed away.
According to a posting on the Hackman Family Funeral Home website, 71 year old Jon Good died September 10 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. A lifelong Sturgis resident, Good graduated from high school in 1968, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1968 until 1972, where he earned the rank of AME 3, Aviation Structural Mechanic. After being discharged, Good enrolled at Glen Oaks Community College, earning an Associate Degree. He later earned a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree from Western Michigan University.
Good was involved in the appraisal business for over 40 years. He was the owner and operator of JW Good and Associates. He was employed by the City of Sturgis as Assistant City Manager and Assessor, and was also the Assistant Circulation Manager for the Sturgis Journal. Good was currently serving the City of Sturgis as City Commissioner At Large. Good was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, serving as a Lector. He was a member of the Knights Of Columbus Deacon Jerry Mix Council #2508, the Sturgis Kiwanis Club, the B.P.O. Elks #1381 and the Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion.
A memorial funeral mass will be held Friday at 11 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church, followed by a gathering from 1 until 4 PM at the Sturgis American Legion.
