DEKALB COUNTY, IN - A man has died after being hit by a train in DeKalb County.
Deputies say a call came in just before noon Wednesday from Norfolk Southern about a man trespassing on the tracks.
While a deputy was on the way to investigate, another call came in informing that the man had been hit by an Amtrak train near US 6 and County Road 47.
The man had been running down the track and the train was traveling east at a speed of approximately 77 mph.
The man, Identified as Jimmy D. Taylor III from Waterloo, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Norfolk Southern Police, Waterloo Police, Butler Police, and Parkview EMS.
In addition, the DeKalb County Corner was contacted, and will be completing their investigation. Norfolk Southern Police were contacted, and handled the incident.
