STEUBEN COUNTY - A Hamilton man was killed in a single-vehicle accident late Monday night.
Indiana State Troopers from the Fort Wayne post stated at approximately 11:48 p.m. troopers were dispatched to the single-vehicle accident in the area of Metz Road and C.R. 200 E in rural Steuben County.
First responders discovered a heavily damaged Volkswagen passenger vehicle on its top with and unresponsive adult male found laying in the roadway.
The male victim was identified by authorities as Alex James Loy, 29, of Hamilton.
Lifesaving measures were attempted by Steuben County EMS and Loy was transported by ambulance to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital where he was then pronounced dead.
Indiana State Trooper Blake Kugler's preliminary investigation confirmed Loy was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.
He was traveling west on Metz Road just east of C.R. 200 E when his vehicle ran off the roadway causing it to rollover. Marks on the roadway indicated the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest on its top.
Trooper Kugler suspects alcohol to be a factor in the accident, but toxicology results are pending autopsy results from the Steuben County Coroner's office.
Loy's family has been notified.
The accident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
Assisting at the scene were the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, the Angola City Police Department, the Angola Fire Department, the Metz Fire Department, the Steuben County EMS, the Steuben County Coroner's Office and Countryside Towing.
