(MILGROVE TOWNSHIP) – A Fremont man is dead after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says deputies were called out just before 12:30 PM Sunday to Milgrove Township for a two vehicle crash.
Deputies determined that a white pick up driven by 42 year old Arthur Marler II of Orland was traveling west on State Road 120, approaching the intersection of County Road 600 West. At the intersection, Marler started to turn left onto County Road 600 West and says he never saw an eastbound motorcycle driven by 41 year old Stephen Mesta of Fremont, and he turned into the path of the motorcycle.
The vehicles collided, and Mesta was thrown from his motorcycle. First responders performed life saving measures, but were not able to resuscitate Mesta, and he was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Marler and his occupants were not injured.
Alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the collision. However, Meeks says as part of the Office’s procedure, the case is under investigation by the Steuben County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
Assisting at the scene were the Orland Fire Rescue, the Angola Police Department, the Orland Town Marshal’s Office, Steuben County EMS and the Indiana State Police.
