(JACKSON TOWNSHIP) – Two people were injured in a two vehicle collision.
Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says just after 9:50 PM Friday, deputies were sent to a two vehicle head on collision on U.S. 20 near County Road 20 North.
The investigation determined that 21 year old Gabriel Malueg of Green Bay, Wisconsin was traveling east on U.S. 20 while a second vehicle, driven by 42 year old George Gondwe of South Bend was heading west. As the vehicles entered a curve in the road, Malueg went left of center and collided with Gondwe.
The collision cause Malueg to suffer a serious injury to his arm and he was trapped in his vehicle. He was freed by Orland Fire Rescue. Both Malueg and Gondwe complained of chest pain and were taken to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital by Steuben County EMS.
Meeks says due to the severity of the crash and the injuries sustained, the Steuben County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and airbags in both vehicles did activate. The road was dry at the time of the collision.
Also assisting at the scene were the Angola Police, the Orland Town Marshal’s Office, the Indiana State Police and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.
