(INDIANAPOLIS) – The quick action of two Indiana State Police Troopers saved the life of a choking teenage girl.
Trooper-Detective Vincent Scott from the Versailles District and Trooper Ryan Hale from the Fort Wayne District were shift partners assigned to uniformed foot patrol on August 16 on the Midway at the Indiana State Fair.
At approximately 9:20 PM, Trooper Scott observed a 14 year old girl take a drink and immediately began struggling and grabbing her throat, indicating she was choking and not able to breathe. Scott went to assist and performed the Heimlich Maneuver and was able to dislodge the item caught in her throat.
While Trooper Scott was tending to the girl, Trooper Hale radioed for on-site EMS to respond to the scene and give her further treatment. The teen was taken to the medical facilities on the fairgrounds property to be monitored and has made a full recovery.
Trooper Scott has served with the Indiana State Police for over five years while Trooper Hale has served nearly two years.
