(SHIPSHEWANA) - The town marshal of Shipshewana has turned himself in after a months-long investigation led to a felony warrant being issued, according to state police.

The Indiana State Police said it was first contacted in May 2025 regarding an alleged domestic battery incident involving Juan Carlos Jasso, the town marshal of Shipshewana.

Following its investigation, Indiana State Police turned its findings over to the LaGrange County Prosecutor's Office. Because Jasso is employed as a law enforcement officer in LaGrange County, the case was reassigned to a special prosecutor to avoid any potential conflict of interest.

After reviewing the evidence, the special prosecutor authorized a warrant on a felony charge of intimidation. Jasso, 49, turned himself in and was booked into the LaGrange County Jail on Tuesday.

Authorities have not released additional details about the underlying allegations. Questions regarding Jasso's employment status have been directed to the Town of Shipshewana.

As with all criminal cases, officials emphasized that the charge is based on probable cause. All allegations remain unproven, and Jasso is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The case remains pending in the judicial system.
