ANGOLA -- Students at Trine University have raised $2,500 to support Kate's Kart, a nonprofit that provides new books to hospitalized children.

The donation came from Trine's Health Science Association, which raised the money during its annual 5K run held as part of the university's Homecoming celebration. The check was presented to Kate's Kart program assistant Jennifer Nixon by HSA president Hunter Overholser.

Based in Fort Wayne, Kate's Kart delivers books to children in hospitals, offering comfort during medical stays while encouraging a love of reading.

Overholser said the student organization was drawn to the mission of helping children and families during difficult times, calling the partnership a natural fit.

Kate's Kart serves hospitals across Indiana and beyond, with volunteers distributing books directly to pediatric patients at no cost to families.
