(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana seniors and residents with disabilities are being urged to act quickly as the deadline approaches to apply for newly updated property tax relief programs.

State officials say eligible homeowners must submit applications by Jan. 15, 2026, to take advantage of the credits, which replace several previous property tax deductions. Even residents who received similar benefits in past years may need to reapply under the new system.

The updated programs include the Over 65 Credit, which provides $150 in property tax relief and no longer places limits on a home's assessed value. Another option, the Over 65 Circuit Breaker Credit, caps annual property tax increases at 2% for qualifying households. The income limits for that program are $60,000 for individuals and $70,000 for couples.

Applications are being handled by local county auditors throughout Indiana, and officials are encouraging residents not to wait until the last minute.

Homeowners who believe they may qualify are advised to contact their county auditor's office as soon as possible to ensure paperwork is completed before the deadline and their tax relief is secured for the upcoming year.
