(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Gov. Mike Braun declared the "state of the state is strong" Wednesday night during his second State of the State address, outlining a 2026 agenda focused on affordability, utilities, health care, housing and taxes.

Speaking as the 2026 legislative session continues, Braun said rising costs remain the top concern he hears from Hoosiers and pledged action to make life more affordable.

Braun highlighted wage growth and job creation in 2025, but said utility costs and health care expenses are still too high. He voiced support for legislation aimed at limiting utility rate increases and said new data centers locating in Indiana will be required to supply their own power so residents aren't left with higher electric bills.

On health care, Braun said lawmakers should focus on transparency, reducing administrative burdens and protecting Hoosiers from medical debt. He backed proposals requiring hospitals to clearly disclose financial assistance programs.

Braun also emphasized property tax relief, saying recently passed changes will save taxpayers an estimated $1.5 billion over three years, while stressing tighter state budgets and cuts to government spending.

Housing shortages, child care costs and education also featured prominently in the speech. Braun praised higher graduation rates, literacy gains and tuition freezes at public universities, while calling for fewer regulations to make homeownership more attainable.

The governor closed by saying Indiana is "winning big," but acknowledged more work remains to make the state affordable for families across all 92 counties.
