(WASHINGTON) - The U.S. Supreme Court will not hear an appeal from Barry Croft Jr., one of the leaders convicted in the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Croft was sentenced in December 2022 to 19 years in federal prison for his role in the case. He was convicted alongside Adam Fox, another key figure in the plot.

President Donald Trump has said he would "look at" issuing pardons for Croft and Fox. Whitmer has said that if Trump does so, he would be breaking a promise he previously made.

The Supreme Court's decision leaves Croft's conviction and sentence in place.
