(KENDALLVILLE) - A Kendallville man was pronounced dead at the scene of a car-train collision Saturday afternoon at the Main Street railroad crossing.

The Noble County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Brenden Fearrin, 33.

The Kendallville Police Department received multiple 911 calls around 2:03 p.m. reporting the crash.

According to a police news release, Fearrin was driving a 2010 Chevy Equinox southbound on Main Street toward the Norfolk Southern Railway tracks and did not stop for an unknown reason.

A freight train pulling 84 railroad cars was traveling westbound through the crossing at the time. The train struck the driver's side of the vehicle.

The crossing reopened at 5:28 p.m. Saturday.

Assisting agencies included the Kendallville Fire Department, Noble County Sheriff's Department, Norfolk Southern Railway Police, Parkview EMS and the Noble County Coroner's Office.
