(ANGOLA) - Sunday, Jan. 25 -- City officials in Angola have activated the city's routine snow removal ordinance following significant snowfall, requiring vehicles parked on public streets and lots to be moved every 24 hours to allow crews to clear roads.
According to a public service announcement issued by the Angola Police Department, the ordinance applies to any vehicle parked on streets, alleys, public squares, or designated public parking areas while snow removal operations are underway.
The ordinance is enforced when snowfall exceeds four inches and is enacted at the discretion of the chief of police and the city street superintendent. Once in effect, vehicle owners must ensure their cars are moved at least once every 24 hours to prevent interference with plowing and street maintenance.
Police say the first violation will result in a red tag being placed on the vehicle. If the vehicle is not moved within the required 24-hour period after being tagged, it may be towed at the owner's expense.
City officials are also reminding residents and business owners of a separate sidewalk snow removal requirement. Sidewalks must be cleared within 12 hours after a snow event ends to help maintain safe pedestrian routes throughout the city.
Authorities say public cooperation is critical during winter weather events to ensure emergency access and safe travel conditions. Residents are encouraged to remain alert for snow removal operations and comply with all posted and announced restrictions.
