(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Department of Child Services Director Adam Krupp has taken a leave of absence for medical reasons, according to the agency.

DCS confirmed Krupp will be away for an unspecified period. Jennifer Dorfmeyer, the department's former chief deputy director, has been named acting director during his absence.

Krupp was appointed to lead DCS in January 2025 by Governor Mike Braun. Agency officials did not disclose details about his medical condition.

In a statement posted to social media, Krupp said he is on medical leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act and was hospitalized earlier this month.

"I'm on the painful road to recovery now, following the advice of doctors and specialists," Krupp wrote. He added that stepping away was difficult but necessary and said he has confidence in the leadership team guiding the agency in his absence.

DCS officials say operations will continue as normal while Krupp recovers.
