(LAGRANGE) - Indiana State Police seek the public's help to solve the 1969 killing of an Amish teenager after someone threw a rock from a passing vehicle into his buggy in LaGrange County.

The attack happened around midnight March 22, 1969, along County Road 300 West near County Road 350 South. The 19-year-old rode in a horse-drawn buggy with his nephew when the rock struck him.

The two returned home, and a neighbor drove the injured teen to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Police identified the victim as Mervin Lehman of LaGrange.

Investigators say the attack did not stand alone. That same night, someone threw another rock into an Amish buggy about two miles away, injuring two passengers.

The killing remains unsolved more than five decades later. Indiana State Police now review the case through their Cold Case Unit and have released details drawn from newspaper accounts published at the time.

Anyone with information related to either incident can contact the Indiana State Police Area 2 Cold Case Team at 1-800-453-4756.
