(LANSING) - A Michigan Senate committee heard testimony on a package of bills that would significantly limit the activities of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement within the state.

The hearing was held by the Michigan Senate Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety Committee and focused on three proposed measures. No vote was taken following testimony.

The bills would prohibit ICE activity at designated sensitive locations, including schools, hospitals, and places of worship. Additional provisions would restrict the use of masks by law enforcement officers except under clearly defined circumstances and bar the state from sharing sensitive personal information with ICE without a judicial warrant.

Supporters of the legislation told committee members the proposals are intended to clarify enforcement boundaries and protect civil rights. Community leaders from across Michigan spoke in favor of the bills during public testimony.

Opponents and supporters were not asked to vote at the hearing, and the legislation remains under committee consideration.
