Fremont Advances to Semi-State After Regional Championship Win

(JIMTOWN) - The Fremont Eagles Girls' Basketball team is headed to the 1A semi-state round after defeating Marquette Catholic 64-51 to capture the regional championship Saturday at Jimtown.

The Eagles pulled away in the second half of a tight contest, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to secure the program's spot just one step from the state finals.

With the win over Marquette, Fremont Eagle Junior forward Mya Turner earned her 1000th point in her high school career.

The regional victory caps a strong postseason stretch for Fremont. The Eagles advanced out of sectionals by winning their third consecutive Class 1A sectional title Feb. 9 with a 59-43 win over Fort Wayne Blackhawk.


Elsewhere in regional action, Norwell defeated Snider 90-56 in Class 4A, Bellmont beat East Noble 63-32 in Class 3A, and Whitko topped Eastside 64-28 in Class 2A.

Fremont now prepares for semi-state competition on Saturday, February 21. The Eagles play Monroe Central at 12noon at Huntington North High School.

The winner of that game will continue on to the state championship.
