(ASHLEY-HUDSON) - A local volunteer fire department is getting a safety upgrade thanks to new funding.
The Ashley-Hudson Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $7,500 community grant from the Community Foundation of DeKalb County.
Department leaders say the money will go directly toward new personal protective equipment, helping ensure firefighters have the gear they need to respond safely.
Officials say grants like this are critical for volunteer departments, allowing them to maintain equipment and protect both crews and the communities they serve.
The department covers areas across both Steuben and DeKalb counties.
