(DEKALB COUNTY) - A Garrett man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in DeKalb County.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says the crash happened at 2:49 a.m. Sunday in the 6000 block of County Road 327 near Garrett.
Jose Vargas Jr., 55, of Garrett, was driving south in a 2006 Buick Lucerne when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway.
The car struck a wire fence, continued through multiple fence posts and then slammed into a large utility pole.
First responders found Vargas inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
