(COLDWATER) - Coldwater city leaders are moving forward with plans to redevelop the former Family Fare property at 410 North Marshall.
The Coldwater City Council on Monday night scheduled an April 27 public hearing on a request from Kev Kor Enterprises for an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act tax abatement certificate.
City Assessor and Neighborhood Services Director Samantha Albright says the city's OPRA committee reviewed the proposal last week and determined the rehabilitation project qualifies for the full 12-year reduction in tax base.
The redevelopment is expected to represent about a $3 million investment in the former grocery store site.
City officials say the project is expected to retain or create between 30 and 50 construction-related positions during the rehabilitation work.
If the tax abatement is approved, construction is expected to begin in June and wrap up by late October or early November.
The former Family Fare in Willowbrook Plaza has been vacant since closing in May 2021.
