(LAGRANGE COUNTY) - Three people were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning at the intersection of U.S. 20 and State Road 3.
The LaGrange County Sheriff's Office says 80-year-old Clara Payne of Colon, Michigan was driving a Dodge Grand Caravan south on State Road 3 around 8:14 a.m. when she failed to yield to westbound traffic on U.S. 20 and pulled into the path of a GMC SUV.
Deputies say Payne became trapped in the driver's seat and had to be extricated by first responders before being flown by Parkview Samaritan to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with chest pain and other injuries.
A passenger, Leah Hochstetler, was taken to Parkview LaGrange Hospital with leg bruising and swelling. Another passenger, Martha Hochstetler, was not hurt. The sheriff's department says a 1-year-old child in the van was also taken to Parkview LaGrange with minor injuries.
The driver of the SUV, 43-year-old Seth Overmyer of Cecil, Ohio, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
