(ANGOLA) - Trine University students got a closer look at hands-on data science opportunities during a recent campus presentation.

Leaders from Purdue University's Data Mine program spoke with students April 10 at the Mark and Sarah Music/Ruoff Mortgage Esports Arena. The program is an interdisciplinary, living-learning community open to students from any major interested in working with data.

Trine students can enroll in a one-credit introductory data science course offered in partnership with Purdue, with no prior experience required. From there, students can move into project-based classes, working in teams on real-world data projects with corporate partners.

Past projects have included analyzing food need and census data in northern Indiana, along with work for companies and organizations including Lincoln Financial, the USDA Forest Service, and Riley Children's Foundation.
