(COLDWATER) - The Coldwater City Council has approved more than $1.3 million in road and sidewalk improvements.

The largest project is a $937,000 reconstruction of Morse Street between U.S. 12 and Smith Street, awarded to Rieth-Riley Construction.

City officials say that corridor serves traffic to several schools and residential neighborhoods, including the BISD Career Center, Kellogg Community College's Grahl Center, and Pansophia Academy. Work is expected to begin this summer to limit disruptions during the school year.

Council members also approved a $220,000 paving project on Liberty Street between Marshall and Grand streets. That project will improve access to Max Larsen Elementary, Coldwater High School, and Parkhurst Park.

A third contract, valued at about $161,000, was awarded to Parrish Excavating for sidewalk installations across 28 properties as part of a citywide effort to improve pedestrian connectivity.

The projects are funded in the 2026-27 fiscal year and focus on infrastructure near schools and residential areas.
