(DETROIT) - Ongoing contract negotiations between Michigan Medicine and Blue Cross Blue Shield are creating uncertainty for patients ahead of a July 1st deadline.

Patients who receive care through Michigan Medicine and rely on Blue Cross coverage say they are concerned about potentially losing in-network access to doctors and specialists.

Blue Cross Blue Shield says it is continuing negotiations with Michigan Medicine in an effort to reach a new agreement before the current contract expires.

The insurance company says certain patients with qualifying medical conditions would continue receiving coverage for 90 days after July 1st. Those conditions could include pregnancy, cancer treatment, transplant surgery, terminal illness, and serious chronic or acute medical conditions.

Michigan Medicine officials say there is currently no change to patient care or insurance coverage while negotiations continue.
