(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Governor Mike Braun has signed legislation expanding property tax relief for veterans across the state.
The new law provides a full property tax deduction for totally disabled veterans on the assessed value of their primary residence. Under the change, qualifying veterans will owe no property taxes on their homes.
Braun called the expansion a "no brainer" during remarks Wednesday and said disabled veterans deserve additional support.
The legislation also creates new property tax credits for other eligible veterans, including a $350 credit for wartime veterans and a $250 credit for senior veterans.
Braun said the changes are part of his administration's Freedom and Opportunity Agenda and pledged to continue pursuing broader property tax reform during future legislative sessions.
The governor also said he wants to continue discussions on broader exemptions for homeowners while encouraging local governments and school districts to operate efficiently.
