Trine Softball Returns To National Championship Series Tuesday

(SALEM, VA) - Trine University is one step away from another national championship.

The Thunder advanced to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Series with a 5-2 victory over Belhaven University on Sunday, earning their second straight trip to the championship round and their fourth appearance in the title series in the last five seasons.

Trine jumped out to an early lead when Karley Trine connected for a two-run home run in the opening innings. Macy Rocha later added a two-run single, while Tyra Marcum's solo home run tied the program's single-season record with the team's 76th homer of the year.

Kami Arnett earned the win in the circle after allowing two runs over six innings. Alex Rodriguez recorded the save.

The Thunder enter Tuesday's championship opener with a 41-6 record and will face the University of Redlands in a best-of-three series.

First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday.
