(ANGOLA) - A young Steuben County deputy is receiving national recognition for his work in law enforcement.
Deputy Karson Meeks was honored with the Charles "Bud" Meeks Deputy Sheriff of the Year for Merit Award during the National Sheriffs' Association Annual Conference in Omaha, Nebraska.
Meeks has been with the Steuben County Sheriff's Office for three years and serves as a patrol deputy and crash reconstructionist. He is also a member of the Steuben County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, helping investigate some of the county's most serious crashes.
A Fremont High School and Trine University graduate, Meeks attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy while still enrolled at Trine before continuing advanced training in crash reconstruction.
Sheriff Rodney Robinson praised Meeks' professionalism, dedication and commitment to serving the public.
The award was presented before sheriffs and law enforcement leaders from across the country during the National Sheriffs' Association's annual conference.
