(MARION) - A 72-year-old Marion man accused of molesting a 10-year-old child has also admitted to abusing at least three other child victims dating back to the 1970s, according to court documents.
Leland Smith Sr. was charged last week with two felony counts of child molestation and is being held without bond in the Grant County Jail.
Court records indicate the current charges stem from allegations involving a 10-year-old victim who reported that Smith exposed himself and sexually assaulted her in July 2025 at a residence in Grant County.
According to court documents, the investigation began June 17 when Smith contacted the Marion Police Department and asked to speak with investigators about child molestation allegations. The case was then turned over to Indiana State Police.
Investigators say Smith admitted to the allegations involving the 10-year-old victim. Court records also allege he told the child she would get in trouble if she disclosed the abuse.
During the interview, Smith reportedly admitted to abusing at least three additional child victims over a period spanning more than 50 years. State police say they are now reviewing those admissions and working to identify any additional victims.
Court documents state Smith told investigators that an appropriate punishment for his actions would be to "be put in front of a firing line."
Smith was arrested June 17 and formally charged the following day in Grant Circuit Court.
If convicted on the current charges, Smith could face up to 52 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines.
The investigation remains ongoing.
