(KENDALLVILLE) - A man who had served as an assistant basketball coach at DeKalb High School and was listed as secretary of Auburn Little League is facing a child solicitation charge.

Jason Purdy, 43, is charged with Level 5 felony child solicitation.

The charge stems from conversations with a decoy Purdy allegedly believed was 14 years old.

Court documents filed Monday in Noble Circuit Court say a group called Blue Collar Predator Hunters reported the conversations to Kendallville Police last Thursday.

Police say the group reported Purdy, using a fake name, allegedly messaged the decoy first on a dating app and sent a photo of himself.

The messages, which were often sexual in nature, spanned March 4 through June 11.

Purdy allegedly planned to meet the minor in Kendallville.

Police noted in court documents that when they confronted Purdy, he claimed he did not know what they were talking about.

The Noble County Jail confirmed Sunday that Purdy was booked and was being held without bond.
