TOLEDO -- A 17-year-old is in custody after police say he stole an excavator Sunday night and swung its bucket toward the machine's owner and the owner's son.
Officers were called to Hawley Street and Western Avenue around 7:15 p.m., where the owner reported spotting the teen driving off in the excavator. When the owner and his son tried to intervene, the teen allegedly began swinging the bucket at them, prompting the owner to fire a warning shot into the air to stop the attack. Witnesses pulled the teen from the cab before officers arrived. He was taken to a hospital with a nose injury suffered during the struggle.
The teen was arrested, though police have not released specific charges. The investigation continues.
