(ANGOLA) - Families at the Early Learning Center in Angola will soon pay more for childcare and preschool services. The center, operated by the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County, announced tuition increases starting the first week of January. The increase comes after a sharp drop in government support. Center director Jami Hubbard says state and federal policy changes have cut the program's funding by nearly 50 percent in recent months.

Weekly base tuition will rise from 175 to 185 dollars, marking the first mid-year rate increase in the center's history. Before- and after-school care rates will also go up, and families using vouchers will be affected. Hubbard says the decision was not taken lightly, but maintaining staff pay, benefits, and high-quality Montessori instruction remains the top priority. She's encouraging families to contact elected officials and push for restored funding for early learning programs.
